Nicola Ross

Life from the trail: Whether it’s on a bicycle, in a canoe or kayak or, most likely, on foot, that’s where Nicola is in her element. They say, you protect what you love. In Nicola’s case, she writes about what she loves.

Bio: Nicola Ross is the award-winning author of 12 books, including her best-selling Loops & Lattes hiking guides. Her articles have been published in The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, Explore, Mountain Life, the Calgary Herald and many more. She was the long time editor of Alternatives Journal at the University of Waterloo and has been a feature writer and columnist with In the Hills magazine for 25 years.

With a long history writing about environmental issues and other challenges to her beloved home in Caledon and throughout Headwaters, Ross is more inclined these days to write about her many outdoor adventures.

Born and raised in Belfountain, a graduate of Mayfield Secondary School and the University of Guelph (Biology), Ross is often found on local hiking trails.
