Hugh Russel

A writer of thrilling action-packed historical military fiction, Hugh’s latest books take the reader back to WW1 with well researched detail and richly developed characters. They’re positively cinematic.

Bio: Author and artist Hugh Russel discovered that his less than stellar education was due to severe dyslexia. Learning some coping skills at 21, he began writing short stories. While working as an artist and in radio in 1971, he married Cheryl Brodie. Though spelling has always been his weakness, his imagination and ideas are quite wonderful. As he honed his writing skills drafting novels and short stories, Cheryl continued correcting his spelling. He left broadcasting when his career as a sculptor blossomed with gallery showings, commissions both large and small. One is in the Vatican.

But it is the art of the writer that Hugh loves best. His first of four published novels came out in 2020, during COVID. He asks, “What could be more fun than writing fiction? You just make stuff up.”
